Description

A variety of wireless-enabled sensor products, most notably wireless temperature sensors, have come to market recently, both within and outside of the HVAC industry. They offer the potential to reduce the installed cost of communicating sensed data by replacing wired infrastructure with digital radio-based communications (e.g., using the ZigBee protocol). Wireless systems tend to be a more attractive solution in retrofit situations, where running additional wires often costs much more than in new installations and also disrupts building occupants. (1) Examples of building applications where wireless systems can have significant value include: * Additional temperature sensors to enable building diagnostics (e.g., ongoing commissioning); (2)
